INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY AFTER BOY DIES DURING POLICE OPERATION

Independent Policing Oversight Authority Chairperson Anne Makori has promised swift justice to the family of a boy who was fatally shot during a police operation in Soweto, Kahawa West in Nairobi.

The Authority launched investigations following the shooting on September 8, 2019, with the aim of establishing the circumstances that led to the death of Baby Dan Githinji.

If any officer is found culpable, IPOA will make recommendations to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

IPOA Chairperson Anne Makori condoles with the boy’s parents at their home.

Mrs. Makori visited the home and condoled with the boy’s parents, among other relatives on September 14, 2019.

She told them: “We are here as a Government agency that is mandated by the law to look into the welfare of citizens. IPOA will do everything possible to ensure that justice is served.”

The Authority is further investigating other incidents that occurred in parts of the country during the week.

In Mowlem Village in Endebess, Trans Nzoia County, a five-year-old girl, Daisy Chepkoech was allegedly fatally shot by police officers during an eviction exercise following a court order.

Mr. Samuel Njenga Njogoo was arrested on 10th September 2019 on suspicion of theft by police officers from Charagita Police Post, Ol Joro Orok, Nyandarua County and thereafter died while in custody at Ngano Police Station.

In Embu, a matatu driver was allegedly shot and injured by a Deputy Police Commander.

“IPOA remains committed to being independent, impartial and fair in all its mandate operations,” the Chairperson also noted.
