Top Editors in print, television and online media in Kenya met IPOA Board as the Authority seeks to bolster collaborations with key stakeholders.
IPOA Board was led by Chairperson Anne Makori during the discussions held with the Kenya Editors Guild, led by its President Mr. Churchill Otieno at the Intercontinental Hotel, Nairobi on August 8, 2019.
The Board assured the Guild that the Authority is not averse to oversight by the media, noting that the “fourth estate,” is the society’s watchdog whose aim is ensuring that Government agencies adhere to the best practices for the interest of the public.

IPOA Commissioners: From left Ms. Fatuma Mohamed, Ms. Doreen Muthaura, Hon. JM Waiganjo, Dr. Walter Ogony follow the proceedings.

The Commissioners narrated the journey that IPOA has travelled in the struggle to realise a professional police service.
The meeting, one of the many called by the Board, was aimed at ensuring that key stakeholders cooperate and collaborate with the Authority in discharging its mandate.
Mrs Makori said: “The Authority continues to forge working relationships with all stakeholders including the media with the view of improving relationships between the public and police.”
In turn, Mr Otieno said that the Guild would remain within IPOA’s reach to ensure that the will of the public is always upheld.
He said: “We want to partner and collaborate with IPOA to ensure that the police are held accountable for their actions. Where there is wrongdoing we shall not shy away from apportioning blame. We also support IPOA because we understand, like journalists, they undertake risky assignments of exposing the injustices in our society.”
